Menopause
Menopause simply means the stopping of periods. It happens to every women if we live long enough.
Why is menopause important?
It is an important hormone milestone and an opportunity for women to look positively at their health and ways to improve and sustain maximum quality of life as we get older.
At the same time the hormone changes of menopause can cause significant health challenges. About 70 per cent of women have significant symptoms with the menopause and 40 per cent will attend a doctor for symptom control. These symptoms can include hot flushes, night sweats, sleeplessness, palpitations, depression, decreased libido, anxiety and a dry, painful vagina. Symptoms can vary enormously in degree with some women having very little discomfort, while others are severely affected to the extent of being unable to function in the personal, family and/or work environment. Menopause can increase the risk of osteoporosis. |
